
A sofa has one job. A straightforward, ancient, remarkably uncontroversial job: to be sat on.
And yet here it is, seventy percent cushion, twenty percent tiny blanket, ten percent theoretical seating. Before relaxing, one must relocate an entire textile collection.
The decorative pillow is furniture’s out-of-office message. “Comfort is currently unavailable. Please leave your body elsewhere.”
One pillow is an accessory. Twelve pillows is a barricade. We should be able to agree on this.
